报告摘要
A white dwarf is supported against gravity by electron degeneracy pressure. The Chandrasekhar mass identifies a critical threshold in its equilibrium theory, raising a dynamical question: can a white dwarf whose mass exceeds this threshold collapse in finite time under a realistic equation of state?
In this talk, I will discuss a construction of collapsing solutions to the Euler–Poisson equations with the white-dwarf equation of state, for masses in an interval immediately above the Chandrasekhar mass. The solutions develop a Goldreich–Weber type collapsing core, connected through an outer layer to a moving physical vacuum boundary. This realizes the classical collapsing-core picture within a model that also describes the star’s low-density surface. I will explain why the core and surface obey different asymptotic laws, how they are joined in a single solution, and what the construction tells us about gravitational collapse near the Chandrasekhar threshold.
